Guillaume CAZET, Head of events for the City of Anglet

Guillaume Cazet has three passions in life: surfing, his city Anglet and organising events. The best part is that he has managed to combine his three passions by working in the Events department of Anglet, which he joined 26 years ago and which he now runs.

Throughout the 90’s, Guillaume witnessed the Golden age of surfing with the Quik Cup, Glissexpo and many other amazing events along the Anglet spots. Some years later, he then also witnessed the declining interest for his beloved city in favour of northern neighbours.

But that is in the past. Thanks to Guillaume and his team, there is now a genuine revival in Anglet with events such as Surf de Nuit, the Anglet International Surf Film Festival, which is set right on the beach, as well as the Anglet Surf Avenue and even the return of a QS event.

These events are the result of a concrete policy that puts surfing at the heart of the city’s marketing  and development strategy. It is also of course the result of a personal desire to see Anglet back in the surfing spotlight. It was far from an easy task, but the team is finally starting to reap what they’ve sown.

From managing a global event (the French Rendez-Vous) during Covid to setting up Anglet’s application for the Olympics, from hosting sustainable events to the challenge of overpopulation in the line-ups but also the debate around wave pools, Guilllaume will take the time to discuss his career, with a passion that burns as bright as it did on day one.

Enjoy the ride.
